| If you only have a few days raft on Chile's Futaleufu River, you can experience the entire river in 3 action filled days of rafting. On longer trips we will paddle our favorite sections again as well as have more time for hiking, fishing, horseback riding plus enjoying the Patagonia mountains and culture.
After a hearty breakfast, we'll drive a half hour to the Bridge to Bridge section of the Rio Futaleufu. After a short safety talk, we'll put-in and practice your paddling strokes and other skills helpful in safely rafting this river. Our highly skilled safety kayak and cataraft will provide our safety net. Passing under the hanging bridge, the rapids begin with a big splash in Zapata rapid, where you will paddle over giant glassy waves while cutting left to miss big holes and rocks.
The constant action continues through many more rapids, with names like Pillow, Mondaca, and Tiberon. Taking out at the cement bridge provides an ideal introduction to the
On the second morning, we will start at the top, launching our rafts from a beach near town. After a short easy practice section, we'll enter the sheer walled granite Canyon del Infierno, where wall to wall turquoise water leads into a series of big rapids - Infierno, Purgatorio, and Escala de Jacabo (Jacobs Ladder) - followed by a scenic float through Las Escalas valley.
The impressively beautiful Zeta and Throne rapids are both too big to raft. Everyone will walk around on the easy trail, while the guides ghost boat the rafts through, or rather, they push the empty boats off at the top, and retrieve them at the bottom of the rapid. The Wild Mile provides us with a flush of excitement before we get to our wilderness camp near the Rio Azul.
On the final day, we will raft the rest of the river. This will include most of the rapids for one of the biggest days of rafting anywhere.A short warm up brings us to Terminator rapid, where we will get out and scout the rapid, finding the safest route through this mile long maelstrom, including the turbulent Kyber Pass and the largest waves of your life in Himalayas.
After a tasty lunch on the beach, we'll continue on through Bridge to Bridge and beyond, with the huge waves of Mas o Menos and the technically challenging Casa de Piedra finishing off a very full 3 days.
Taking out at our camp, we will enjoy a farewell dinner of roast lamb and other Chilean delicacies, with plenty of fine Chilean wine.
